does anyone know if there is a formula for what is the maximum size conduit that can be installed in a post tension slab? i have a 7" slab i am working on. i sent an rfi to the engineer. but i was wondering if there is a generally accepted formula.
understanding post-tensioning systems
post-tensioning has become a strong contender for manufacturing reinforced concrete (rc) members, especially for flat slabs in large-span structures. post-tensioned (pt) slabs can lead to considerable material savings while reducing the embodied carbon (embodied co2), construction time, and life cycle maintenance and repair costs. in this research, a novel hybrid firefly–artificial neural network (firefly–ann) computational intelligence model was developed to estimate the cost effectiveness and embodied co2 of pt slabs with different design variables. to develop the dataset, several numerical models with various design variables, including the pattern of tendons, slab thickness, mechanical properties of materials, and span of slabs, were developed to investigate the sustainability and economic competitiveness of the derived designs compared to benchmark conventional rc flat slabs. several performance measures, including punching shear and heel drop vibration induced by human activity, were used as design constraints to satisfy safety and serviceability criteria. the economic competitiveness of pt slabs was more evident in larger spans where the cost and embodied co2 emissions decreased by 39% and 12%, respectively, in pt slabs with a 12-m span length compared to conventional rc slabs. sensitivity analysis also confirmed that the cost and embodied co2 emissions were very sensitive to the slab thickness by 86% and 62%, respectively.
as early as the 1950s, a method of improving construction practices and reinforcing concrete emerged in the united states. the post-tensioning (or post-stressing) concrete method provides outstanding durability, increased design flexibility, and improved safety. this method also came the need for specialized concrete restoration and repair services. many modern office buildings, commercial and residential towers, ... read more

in the constantly changing real estate industry, properties have to be properly maintained and periodically remodeled to keep up with the latest trends. this is especially true for urban real estate; town homes, condominiums, high rises, and skyscrapers are constantly tended to and updated to suit changing tastes. to that end, contractors are sorely needed who know how to handle the materials these buildings are constructed with.
the multi-level car park “république” in reims, finished in october 2020 and built of reinforced concrete, has a capacity of 745 parks reachable via ramps that allow access to vehicles up to the roof. in order to optimize the inner spaces of circulation and to add two rows of car parks, the project had to be realized with 16 m large spans. the designers decided to use lightened slabs with u-boot® beton in reinforced concrete coupled with a post-tension system. the presence of the two technolo...

reading post-tension plans and shop drawings in an earlier post, i discussed that post-tension slabs are generally thinner and have longer spans than similar conventionally-reinforced slabs. however, it stands to reason that getting that kind of performance requires careful design. engineers spend a great deal of effort balancing concrete (which is very cheap) with more...

the document discusses the use of post-tensioning in concrete slab construction for high-rise buildings. post-tensioning allows for larger floor spans without requiring thicker slabs and beams, reducing material costs. it provides benefits like decreased deflection and cracking compared to conventionally reinforced concrete. there is a trend toward post-tensioning due to demands for open floor plans with fewer supports that maximize rental space. while reinforced concrete is sufficient for spans up to 8 meters, post-tensioning enables even larger floorspaces. it results in lighter, more economical structures for tall buildings by reducing floor-to-floor heights. proper sequencing and timing of post-tensioning is important to minimize cracking as the concrete cures.

several researchers have studied how impact loads from impact hazards affect reinforced concrete (rc) slabs. there is relatively little research on impact loading effects on pre-stressed structures. the usage of fibers in structural elements intrigued researchers. in this paper, impact-loaded post-tensioned (pt) slabs with and without forta-ferro fibers were compared to post-tensioned slabs with plain concrete and conventional shear reinforcement. forta-ferro is a lightweight, low-cost fiber, and hence its effects on slab structural response under impact load deserve to be explored. post-tensioned slabs’ impact resistance and energy absorption were tested using real-world situations of rapid and severe loads. four identical 3.3 by 1.5 m concrete slabs were utilized in the experiment. the experiment involved dropping a 600 kg iron ball from 8 m onto each slab’s center of gravity. the slabs’ responses were investigated. the four slab configurations were tested for displacement, energy absorption, and cracking. forta-ferro fiber reinforcement is understudied, making this study significant. the study’s findings may help us comprehend fiber-reinforced concrete pt slabs’ impact resistance and structural performance. engineers and designers of impact-prone buildings like slabs and bridges will benefit from the findings. the study also suggests adding forta-ferro fibers to post-tensioned slabs to improve durability and resilience against unanticipated impact hazards.
